Protection Begins With Worship
Protection is not a charm, object, secret code, or personality. It begins with tawhid, sincerity, salah, repentance, Qur’an, dhikr, lawful living, and dependence on Allah.
A simple point worth repeating: treatment before harm is better than dramatic treatment after harm. Keep the daily adhkar. Maintain the ordinary Sunnah protections. Do not replace them with invented objects or writings.

Core Qur’an Recitations
Ayat al-Kursi – Qur’an 2:255
Arabic:
اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ ۚ لَا تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلَا نَوْمٌ ۚ لَّهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ ۗ مَن ذَا الَّذِي يَشْفَعُ عِندَهُ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ ۚ يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ ۖ وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِشَيْءٍ مِّنْ عِلْمِهِ إِلَّا بِمَا شَاءَ ۚ وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ ۖ وَلَا يَئُودُهُ حِفْظُهُمَا ۚ وَهُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ
Transliteration: Allahu la ilaha illa Huwa, al-Hayyul-Qayyum. La ta’khudhuhu sinatun wa la nawm. Lahu ma fis-samawati wa ma fil-ard. Man dhal-ladhi yashfauindahu illa bi-idhnih. Yalamu ma bayna aydihim wa ma khalfahum, wa la yuhituna bi-shay'in minilmihi illa bi-ma sha’. Wasia kursiyyuhus-samawati wal-ard, wa la ya'uduhu hifzuhuma, wa Huwal-Aliyyul-`Azim.
Meaning summary: Allah alone is the Ever-Living, the Sustainer. Nothing in the heavens or earth escapes His knowledge, authority, or protection.
Timing: morning, evening, after obligatory prayers, and before sleep.
It is reported from Abu Hurayrah in Sahih al-Bukhari that whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi before sleep has a protector from Allah, and no shaytan comes near him until morning.
The last two verses of al-Baqarah – Qur’an 2:285-286
Recite them at night. Their meaning includes belief, submission, seeking forgiveness, and asking Allah not to burden the servant beyond capacity.
Al-Ikhlas, al-Falaq, and al-Nas
Arabic openings:
قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ
قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ
Timing: three times in the morning, three times in the evening, and before sleep while blowing lightly into the hands and wiping over the body.
Morning And Evening Adhkar

Bismillah alladhi la yadurru
Arabic:
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
Transliteration: Bismillah alladhi la yadurru maa ismihi shay'un fi al-ardi wa la fi al-sama'i, wa Huwa al-Sami al-`Alim.
Meaning summary: In Allah’s name, nothing in the earth or sky can harm with His name, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
Timing: morning and evening, three times.
A`udhu bi kalimatillah al-tammat
Arabic:
أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
Transliteration: A`udhu bi kalimatillahi al-tammati min sharri ma khalaq.
Meaning summary: I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He created.
Timing: evening, travel stops, and general protection.
Reported from Khawlah bint Hakim in Sahih Muslim: whoever says it when stopping at a place, nothing will harm him until he leaves.
Hasbiyallahu la ilaha illa Huwa
Arabic:
حَسْبِيَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ
Transliteration: Hasbiyallahu la ilaha illa Huwa, alayhi tawakkaltu, wa Huwa Rabbul-Arshil-`Azim.
Meaning summary: Allah is sufficient for me; I rely upon Him, Lord of the mighty Throne.
Timing: morning and evening, seven times.
La ilaha illa Allah wahdahu la sharika lah
Arabic:
لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
Transliteration: La ilaha illa Allah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulk wa lahul-hamd, wa Huwa `ala kulli shay’in qadir.
Meaning summary: None has the right to be worshiped but Allah alone. His is the dominion and praise, and He has power over all things.
Timing: often recited in the morning, one hundred times.
Istighfar
Arabic:
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ
Transliteration: Astaghfirullah.
Meaning summary: I seek Allah’s forgiveness.
Timing: throughout the day, one hundred times as a strong daily habit.
Daily Movement Protections
Before entering the bathroom
Arabic:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ
Transliteration: Allahumma inni a`udhu bika min al-khubuthi wal-khaba’ith.
Meaning summary: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from male and female devils or filthy things.
Timing: before entering the bathroom or place of relieving oneself.
Reported in the Sunan (an-Nasa’i and others); these places are mentioned as haunts of devils, which is why the Sunnah teaches this du`a before entering.
Before eating
Arabic:
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ
Transliteration: Bismillah.
Meaning summary: In the name of Allah.
Timing: before eating and drinking.
Entering the home
Say the name of Allah, give salam, and make the home a place of Qur’an, prayer, good words, and lawful living.
Leaving the home
Arabic:
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ
Transliteration: Bismillah, tawakkaltu `ala Allah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.
Meaning summary: In Allah’s name, I rely on Allah, and there is no power or strength except through Allah.
Before sleep
Recite Ayat al-Kursi, the last two verses of al-Baqarah, and al-Ikhlas/al-Falaq/al-Nas three times while blowing lightly into the hands and wiping over the body.
Protecting The Home
House protection is ordinary worship, not occult cleansing. Recite Qur’an in the home, especially Surat al-Baqarah. Keep salah, dhikr, good speech, and lawful conduct alive in the house. Remove charms, ta`wiz, occult writings, and objects that were given as spiritual protection.

Protecting Family, Children, And Wealth
Protection is not only for yourself. It should also extend to your family, children, and wealth. The Prophet, salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam, used to seek refuge for his grandsons with these words:
أُعِيذُكُمَا بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ، مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ، وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ
Transliteration: Uidhukuma bi-kalimatillah at-tammah, min kulli shaytanin wa hammah, wa min kulliaynin lammah.
Meaning summary: I seek protection for you both in the perfect words of Allah, from every devil and crawling creature, and from every harmful eye. (Reported in Sahih al-Bukhari.)
Practical ways to protect a household:
- Recite over your children and teach them the morning and evening adhkar and the last three surahs.
- Keep Surat al-Baqarah and regular Qur’an alive in the home.
- Say “ma sha Allah, tabarak Allah” and ask Allah to bless what pleases you in your family and wealth, rather than admiring without blessing (see The Evil Eye).
- Begin with bismillah over your provision and possessions, and give thanks for them.
Do Not Replace Sunnah With Objects
Beware of writing Qur’an on papers, feet, hands, doors, charms, or objects for protection. Even if the wording looks religious, the act may replace what the Prophet, salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam, actually taught: recite, remember Allah, make du`a, and rely on Him.
