This page is a guide to patterns, not a diagnosis. Spiritual affliction is real, but symptoms alone do not prove sihr, possession, or `ayn. The same outward sign may come from illness, trauma, grief, lack of sleep, family conflict, mental-health distress, neurological disease, spiritual harm, or more than one cause at the same time.
Do not delay medical care for seizures, fainting, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, psychosis, severe depression, dangerous aggression, chest pain, poisoning, or any emergency. Ruqyah can be pursued alongside responsible care.
Patterns That May Suggest Sihr
Sihr often appears as a sudden reversal or disruption. Examples include a person moving from love to intense hatred, calm to unusual hostility, productive to unable to function, religious balance to extreme behavior, or closeness to sudden separation.
Other patterns may include unexplained sickness after a suspicious event, intense aversion between spouses, unusual dependency on someone, repeated inability to complete normal goals, or sudden misery after receiving food, gifts, objects, or instructions from someone tied to occult practice.
These signs are still not proof. The safe response is to protect yourself with Qur’an and adhkar, avoid accusation, seek wise counsel, and read Sihr and Safe Ruqyah and False Healers.
Patterns That May Suggest Possession Or Mass
Mass is a jinn affecting a person directly. Possible patterns include severe personality change, isolation, sudden rage, despair, unusual laziness, loss of ordinary communication, fainting in certain gatherings, compulsive self-harm, or acting in ways the person later deeply regrets.
Some cases are described as love-related, where the person becomes blocked from marriage or normal marital life. Others are revenge-related, where harm follows an accidental incident such as hurting jinn in a bathroom or unsafe place. These are explanatory patterns, not grounds for certainty. Read Possession and Mass.
If someone is hurting themselves, threatening others, or losing touch with reality, keep them safe and seek urgent help. Lawful ruqyah should calm the situation and increase dependence on Allah, not create spectacle.
Patterns That May Suggest `Ayn
The evil eye can affect health, wealth, family, marriage, children, work, and barakah. It may appear as sudden decline after admiration, envy, public attention, or a moment where protection was neglected.
People fall into three broad categories: someone who has a harmful eye and does not know it, someone who knows and avoids harming others, and someone who knowingly uses it. The public lesson is not to accuse people. The lesson is to say “ma sha Allah,” make du`a for blessing, and keep morning and evening adhkar.

Waswas, Intrusive Thoughts, And Ordinary Struggle
Not every whisper, fear, doubt, or temptation is possession. Shaytan may whisper, beautify sin, cause despair, or push a person toward extremes without entering the body. A person may also experience intrusive thoughts because of anxiety, obsessive-compulsive patterns, trauma, or stress.
Part of this is ordinary. The Prophet, salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam, taught that every person has an assigned jinn-companion, the qareen, who prompts toward evil (Sahih Muslim) — so a passing whisper is a normal part of being human, not a sign that a jinn has entered the body. The believer is helped against the qareen through worship, seeking refuge, and adhkar.
A helpful sign of balance is whether the response returns the person to Allah, prayer, Qur’an, community, and steady habits. A harmful response increases fear, isolation, suspicion, and dependence on a personality.
Epilepsy And Seizure-Like Symptoms
This subject belongs here as a careful comparison point.
Seizures, fainting, loss of awareness, unusual movements, staring spells, confusion, and memory gaps can have neurological or medical causes. Some spiritual-affliction descriptions may sound similar from the outside, so a person should not assume every seizure-like event is jinn or sihr.
Seek medical evaluation for seizure-like symptoms, especially if they are new, frequent, associated with injury, occur during pregnancy, follow head trauma, involve fever, or happen with self-harm or dangerous behavior. A person may also continue Qur’an, du`a, and lawful ruqyah while doctors investigate.
What To Do Next
Begin with protection, repentance, salah, Qur’an, and morning/evening adhkar. Avoid panic and accusation. If possible, start with self-ruqyah and ask trusted family or community members for support.
If you seek a raqi, choose someone who calls you back to Allah and the Sunnah, does not claim unseen knowledge, does not demand private objects or names of mothers, does not use ta`wiz, does not require sacrifice, and does not keep you dependent through repeated payments.
